Abstract:
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of the Tiaoshen Jianpi acupuncture combined with Ganlu Xiaodu Dan in the treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR) with spleen-stomach damp-heat pattern.
Methods Eighty patients diagnosed with AR of spleen-stomach dampheat pattern were enrolled from the Fifth People’s Hospital of Nanhai District, Foshan City, during the period from July 2023 to December 2024. The patients were divided into two groups, using a random number table, with 40 cases in each. The Control group received Ganlu Xiaodu Dan, and the intervention group received the Tiaoshen Jianpi acupuncture combined with Ganlu Xiaodu Dan. Both groups underwent continuous treatment for 12 weeks. The clinical efficacy rate, the severity of nasal and ocular symptoms, the level of serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) and the rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ) score before and after treatment, incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups.
Results The clinical efficacy rate in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group (
P < 0.05). The nasal and ocular symptoms score, the RQLQ score and the level of IgE of the two groups at 6 and 12 weeks after treatment were lower than those before treatment (
P < 0.05), and the indexes of the two groups at 12 weeks after treatment were lower than those at 6 weeks (
P < 0.05). At 6 and 12 weeks after treatment, the nasal and ocular symptoms score, RQLQ score and level of IgE of the intervention group were lower than those in the control group (
P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups during treatment (
P > 0.05). The recurrence rate in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group (
P < 0.05).
Conclusion Tiaoshen Jianpi acupuncture combined with Ganlu Xiaodu Dan shows favorable clinical efficacy in treating AR with spleen-stomach damp-heat pattern. It can effectively alleviate the nasal and ocular symptoms of patients, improve the quality of life, reduce the serum IgE level and recurrence rate, and demonstrate a favorable safety profile.
