Abstract: Recently, many new anti-HIV natural compounds have been isolated from microorganisms, plants and marine organisms. They exhibit variable anti-HIV mechanisms and potent activities against wild strains and drug-resistant HIV mutants. These natural products provide a basis for future anti-HIV drug development to overcome the disadvantages of current combination antiretroviral therapy, including drug resistance, adverse drug reactions and inability to eliminate latent virus reservoirs. The advances in research on anti-HIV natural products have been reviewed in this paper.
