Research Progress of Plant Extracts for Photoaging

  • The skin acts as the organ that covers the largest surface area of the entire body. Skin aging is a complicated physiological process influenced by internal and external factors. Ultraviolet irradiation-induced photoaging not only has a harmful effect on skin appearance, but also leads to skin diseases due to structural destruction of the skin. Nowadays, multi-source plant extracts and mature extraction technology make plant extracts popular raw materials for the potential treatment of skin photoaging. This article reviews the mechanism of skin photoaging, and briefly introduces several popular plant extracts to treat photoaging and their action mechanisms.
