Progress of the Role of Neutrophils in Drug-Induced Liver Injury

  • In the disease progression of drug-induced liver injury (DILI), the role of neutrophils recruited into the liver in aggravating liver injury through various ways has attracted wide attention. However, the mechanisms underlying neutrophil-mediated liver injury in direct, indirect, and idiotypic DILI vary and require further investigation. This review aims to elucidate the role of neutrophils in exacerbating DILI-associated hepatic damage and explore their distinct actions in acetaminophen-, triptolide-, and pyrrolixidine alkaloidinduced direct DILI, halothane-induced idiotypic DILI, as well as immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced indirect DILI. These findings may offer valuable insights and strategies for understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of DILI.
