Application of Lipidomics in the Research on Chronic Kidney Disease

  • Chronic kidney disease(CKD) has emerged as a worldwide public health threat with various complications of cardiovascular disease. Early detection and careful monitoring of renal function are essential for the prevention of CKD occurrence and progression.Unfortunately, traditional biomarkers of renal function are insufficiently sensitive or specific for the detection of early stages of the disease,so more effective strategies of CKD diagnosis are needed. As a new branch of metabolomics, lipidomics focuses on the metabolic disorder of lipids, and has gradually become an effective method for the early diagnosis and monitoring of CKD since it was established in 2003.This paper reviews the recent applications of lipidomics in the research on CKD and its related kidney damages with summary and discussion of lipid disorders, in order to provide some reference for further investigation.
