Global Research and Development Pipeline of Anti-coronavirus Drugs

In late 2019, a novel coronavirus caused in Wuhan a febrile respiratory illness known as COVID-19, which spread quickly across the country. Coronavirus has posed three serious threats to human health in the 21st century. With the epidemic of the virus, people in China and around the world are looking forward to the emergence of drugs with validated clinical efficacy to ease the crisis. The compassionate use of remdesivir brought a ray of light to the patients. This article reviews remdesivir, and the anti-coronavirus vaccines and therapeutic drugs in the global pipeline of research and development, in the hope of better facilitating the global development of relevant drugs so as to build a protective wall for humans against COVID-19 as early as possible.
